President’s Patch, submitted by Linda Garcia
It’s that time of the year again, time to celebrate the Frontera Guilt’s birthday. So come one, come all and join this joyful birthday party! All bringing gifts for the guild that any quilter would love. These gifts will then be part of our silent auction and all the funds will be for Frontera Guild. Any gift you bring will be greatly appreciated and it can be gift cards, finished projects, sewing tools or fabric, even home baked goodies, or you can bring anything a quilter would love.
Giving to the guild is really giving to the quilters, because we are the one who benefit from it, with great guest speakers and classes for all.
Hope to see all members, at Frontera’s Birthday Party!

ANNUAL RETREAT 2015, submitted by Judi Prukop

The Frontera Quilt Guild Retreat was held from Wednesday September 2, 2015 to Sunday September 6, 2015 at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch outside New Braunfels, TX. If you ask anyone who attended about their experience  they reply, “It was fantastic, a lot of fun!”. There was more than ample opportunity to shop, sew, eat, visit, share  ideas, play games and win prizes.
Everyone received a door prize and 50% of the ladies won at one or more of the games we played.
Seventy one percent of the ladies turned in a challenge Royal Batik block for a total of 65 blocks enabling 5 ladies to receive 12 blocks apiece and one lady received 5 blocks to make a quilt of their choice. Ladies receiving a set of 12 Royal Batik blocks were Carol Anderson, Sherri Garcia, Barbara Terry, Catherine Raftery, and Nyla Gordon.
Kimberly Gonzalez won the 5 remaining blocks.
Twenty four ladies made 4 blocks each of the Jewel Box pattern for the retreat quilt. Two of the blocks had a black background and 2 had a white background. Nyla Gordon won the blocks with a black background and Catherine Raftery won the blocks with the white background to make a Jewel Box quilt.
Sixty five percent of the ladies played “Strip Poker” on Friday night and “CRL” on Saturday night. Jan Beaman provided anyone playing “Strip Poker” instructions to make a Rainstick Quilt which uses 2 Jelly Rolls or 80 strips of fabric (2.5”x42”). Barbara Terry, Jacinta Cavazos, Cheryl Williams, Cyndi Gonzalez, Kimberley Gonzalez and Gloria Harris won strips of fabric at “Strip Poker” while Janice Green, Cheryl Williams, Carol Anderson, Judi Prukop and Cyndi Gonzalez won fat quarters of fabric at “CRL”.
Eighty three percent of the ladies present carpooled over to the Quilt Haus in New Braunfels for a demo on using the "Five & Dime" ruler and “Spare Change” ruler and to shop. Everyone present for the demo received a door prize. Ten quilt shops from San Antonio, Schertz, New Braunfels, Buda, Wimberley, Blanco, and Dripping Springs offered retreat participants discounts on their purchase.

A lot of quilting, hand applique, wool applique, Tamari ball, beading & knitting projects were started and/or finished at retreat as evidenced by the number of items displayed at “Show and Tell” Saturday evening.

There is nothing like spending 5 days with wonderful ladies doing things you enjoy doing. Be sure and make plans to attend the 2016 Frontera Quilt Guild Retreat. It will be held at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch outside New Braunfels, TX, on Wednesday, September 7 to Sunday, September 11, 2016. Registration will begin February 8, 2016 with a non-refundable deposit of $150.
Sherri Garcia is handling the duties of the monitoring the tickets and the quilt for this years fund raiser. Tickets and photographs are available at the business meetings. At this time, very few tickets have been turned in, about $250.00 in sales. The projected goal for this fund raiser is $2,500.00. This is a great “opportunity” to raise funds so, please pick up tickets and support the guild.
