The Frontera Quilt Guild Retreat 2011

After many long hours of planning and preparations twenty six Frontera Quilt Guild members came together for four days of fun filled activities; sewing, shopping, visiting, games, door prizes, classes, eating, show and tell, etc at the 2011 Frontera Quilt Guild Retreat, held October 5, 2011 – October 9, 2011 at John Newcombe Tennis Ranch, New Braunfels, Texas.

We were lucky to have 5 Frontera Quilt Guild members who reside out of the Rio Grande Valley area join us. It is always a treat to meet and visit with these members. Joining us this year was Dianna Gay, Shiner, TX; Janice Green, Poth, TX; Cindy Hambrick, Round Rock, TX; Barbara Justice, Dundee, FL; and Sylvia Martinez, Leakey, TX.

COM M ITTEE REPORT; RETREAT 2011 continued

Jane Hardy Miller (Rusty) conducted a two day “French Braid” quilt workshop that the retreat attendees could take advantage of. As we watched the French braids evolve, each braid was unique and beautiful. Some of the ladies neared completion of their quilt before the end of the retreat. Everyone that attended the retreat was a winner for the many happy moments we experienced.

There were also 4 opportunities to win special prizes. (1) Forty “Share-a-Star” blocks were turned in Wednesday evening. On Thursday evening, Marilyn Bailey and Ninfa Villarreal each won a set of 12--12” star blocks while Yvonne Rising won 10--9” star blocks and 6--6” star blocks.

(2) The members that wanted a chance to win all of the blocks and finishing kit to complete the
Retreat Quilt received their block packets Wednesday evening.
Each members name was placed "in the hat" that completed the block packets by Friday evening. Two retreat quilt kits were given away Friday evening to two lucky ladies, Dinora Cavazos and Yvonne Rising

(3) “Strip Poker” was played Saturday evening with ladies using 20—2 ½” strips of fabric. The winning ladies, Dinora Cavazos, Lillian Hollabaugh, Jan Beaman/Michele Dextras, went away with 40 to 80—2 ½” strips of fabric.

(4) Items donated by individual members and gift certificates to local quilt stores purchased from the retreat fund provided the retreat attendees with 6 door prizes. Cindy Hambrick donated two small beaded items won by Pat Dailey. Barbara Justice donated a “fireless” candle and two hot pads won by Lynn Johnson. Mi Belia Mena donated a cutting mat won by Mary Lou Garza. Thanks ladies for adding more fun to the retreat. The gift certificates were from B&B Quilting & Gifts of Buda, TX won by Dinora Cavazos, The Quilt Haus of New Braunfels, TX won by Geanne Goreham, and Oak Leaf Quilts of New Braunfels, TX won by Judi Prukop

The Frontera Quilt Guild Retreat will be held October 3, 2012 thru October 7, 2012 at John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas. Lola Jenkins and her sister, Janice, will be our Guests.
